Hello Again
Life has been busy. Which meant This Month, That Mood took a back seat.. and right now, life is only getting busier. But I miss it. So I have decided to start again, but on in a fresher and hopefully better format. It felt like a natural transition. Some months I have bought lots of beautiful things and travelled to lots of places, and others, I have been engrossed in work or in the midst of unglamorous renovations. So when I have something to say, feels more.. intentional. And authentic.
So to catch you up - I got engaged! Eek. Feels surreal. And I bought a house. Eek once more. Adulting 101. In my head I am still 16 so it’s a lot. But it means I have lots to talk about.
Right now I am in the middle of a renovation, and dreaming of getting to the design stage. So you get the vibe, its a Victorian Terraced House, in West London. 4-bed, 2-bath and an open plan living/kitchen which opens onto the garden. She’s had all of her structural work done to her, but we need to spruce her up. I am an Pinterest-addict at the moment and these are my favourites so far:
Master Bedroom
I am a true bed by 9pm (latest) kind of girl, so arguably it’s the most important room in the house (although more on that in a sec). It needs to feel like I am in a hotel. The smallest details like having the light switch by your bed, as well as your phone charging plug not jammed behind a table are imperative. I also love the wall lights instead of your classic bedside lamps. Less is truly more in this space.
Closet
Ok maybe the most important room. I have a lot of stuff, and I need somewhere to store it all. So we will be knocking through into one of the bedrooms to make it a walk-in closet. I’m thinking a wallpaper’d ceiling and mahogany cupboards. I am a firm believer that bedrooms are for sleeping, no one wants to go to sleep surrounded by chaos so let’s just move it to another room. I need to remember to order the doorknob tassels once it’s completed - très chic.
Sitting Room
Asymmetry is key for me - I don’t want to see built in shelves either side of a fire place. It feels basic. Replace them with an antique chest of drawers that makes the space authentically you. I feel the same about furniture, it shouldn’t match, if it does? It lacks personality. It’s easy to walk into the store and buy the set, but it’s not thought through. These things take time, but its so worth it.
I also want every colour to feel intentional, right down to the skirting boards. Not that we are huge on colour, but warmer tones that you can feel. So no, there will be no brilliant white or Elephants Breath to be seen in my humble abode.
Whilst I have just given a spiel on a few of the plans currently in motion, it wouldn’t be in my true style to not suggest a few purchases here nor there. So see what I may, or may not, have already bought.
I haven’t even started on anything wedding. So I’ll be back for more on that.
