India Montgomery
This Month we sat down with India Montgomery, the founder and creative director of The Edition 94, a homeware boutique, offering a curated selection of globally sourced artisan pieces and vintage finds, and The Dot Project, a contemporary art gallery fostering a new generation of collectors.
With her distinctive sense of style and beautifully layered home, where we sat down to chat about everything This Month, we’re thrilled to step into her world of interiors, art, and effortlessly chic living.
What do you consider your signature style ‘formula’?
I think this is constantly changing and developing but as I’ve got older I’ve learnt to trust my instincts much more on what I love style wise and use that as my formula. When I start mulling over something in my head for days / weeks / keep screenshots of something I normally find it’s not the right fit for me - so the impulsive purchases/decisions actually turn out to be the best ones!
What are some wish list items you’re currently manifesting? Or anything you have recently purchased that you love?
Favourite travel destinations?
We have two young boys and the best places we have travelled with them so far have been Costa Rica and Scotland. Both offered TOTALLY different vibes but both offered a sense of freedom for us and the boys. Our favourite spot in Costa Rica was Nosara but we also adored Santa Teresa and found a heavenly Airbnb right on the beach. In Scotland we also did an Airbnb and stayed in Ardelve which was the perfect location to get across to the Isle of Skye and lots of magical spots in the winter snow!
My husband and I would really love to take the boys to Fernando De Noronha; we went in 2019 and it feels like being in Jurassic Park, minus the dinosaurs. Uruguay, Hong Kong or back to Australia (where we spent a lot of time together when we first met) are also high on our list. Three very different options up for consideration at the moment!
What’s your most-worn piece this season – and how do you style it?
Not the most exciting item in my wardrobe but given the perfect sunshine we have had this spring I have lived in my very simple black leather flip flops from Massimo Dutti. They have worked with everything I have paired them with and somehow make my daily outfit rotation of jeans and a plain T-shirt feel a bit more elevated and chic.
Who’s your current style crush?
Laura Vidrequin Roso - she is just one of those people who just gets clothes. Her style feels effortless in that very French way.
Is there a hotel you’d book just for the interiors alone?
Jnane Rumi, Morocco
Hôtel du Couvent, Nice
Vila Santa Teresa, Rio
If you had to wear one brand for the rest of your life who would it be and why?
In my pretend world I would wear Jill Sander everyday. I love the minimalism, use of colour, materials and the less is more feeling - where the pieces are so perfectly tailored and focused on craftsmanship you don’t need to accessories are all. Everything is so simple but so perfectly executed.
The one item you’d never travel without?
I now sleep with a very thick silky eye mask and I genuinely don’t think I could sleep without it again. It is so comfortable, keeps all the light out and I find my eyes never get puffy in the mornings now that I am wearing this religiously.
What’s on your mood for This Month?
We have a big project launching with The Dot Project X Heritage Explore this summer - so all things history and heritage are on my mood board.
Looking back at archives and past heritage has been so inspiring and we can’t wait to share the dialogue between Heritage and contemporary art this summer!
